This is a project where I am involved not only in the music production but also in the writing, production and direction of the film in collaboration with 4 others - Sandra Weese, Ayesha Mendham, Teo Campos and Luis Lungarini.
During the summer 2009, 4 of us went on a road trip from Barcelona to Marrakesh in Morocco, in order to hook up with musicians on the way to record material for a musical documentary. Now we are back and continuing to add material to what is turning out to be a very nice piece.
The idea is to explore issues of cultural identity in a shrinking world where everyone is starting to intermix and connect, while at the same time some borders are becoming tougher and economic differences are acute. Musicians are a natural conduit of culture between regions and we wanted to explore this too.
Above is the teaser we currently have that shows off some of the material we recorded.
ABOUT THE MUSIC_
We took portable recording equipment with us and made many recordings in dozens of amazing locations, geurilla style, with each musician improvising material over the last day's recordings, which were edited during the trip. An exhausting but exciting experience!
We are continuing to record more people in Barcelona, as many people are interested in coming on board, including such groovy folk as Max from Ojos de Brujo and more. Watch this space!

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION_
Shot on 35mm with a great cast and crew, this is a fine looking film. For the post production Barcelona's Apuntolapospo worked on the excellent Flame compositing for the sea scenes at the start.
On the audio side, the 5.1 mix, sound design, and foley were all handled by Soundcrash, the fantastic team from Canet de Mar near Barcelona, who did the Foley work for "The Orphanage", which won a Goya award for its sound design. Edgar and Kiko (and at the dolby mix, Juan at QT lever) were a total pleasure to work with and I learned a hell of a lot watching them work.
ABOUT THE SCORE_
I decided to use mainly layers of voices in this score, to play with the human element, ritual, religion, belief, hope and despair. The film is in two halves, one that sets the bleak tone, and the other that climaxes in total horror...Featuring the voices of Ayesha Mendham, Toni Marti and Jimmy Anderson.

ABOUT THE FILM_

FESTIVALS_
WINNER!-
Official Selection -
"Masters of the Macabre", online competition.
Fort Lauderdale Fiilm Festival, Florida, EEUU 2008
ABOUT THE SCORE_
Boris the director actually told me about the film on a friday - and by the saturday night the score had to be ready for entry to a competition! With no time to think, I had to just write straight away, and the classic creepy piano and freaky synths did just the trick for this classic little horror piece.
The music came together surprisingly quickly, which was in no small part due to the quality and controlled pace of the film making and acting, which made my job very easy.
Scoring a film in 24 hours - now that was quite a mission!

ABOUT THE FILM_
Clocked is a dark and gritty urban drama about an urban kid and her relationship with her mother. It is a tense and traumatic film that challenges your prejudices about people and the things that drive them to do desperate things.
FESTIVALS_
Premiere -
Official Selection-
Raindance, London 2008
Branchage Jersey International Film Festival, Jersey, 2008
Bootleg Film Festival, Glasgow 2008 (winner "Outstanding Achievement")
Leeds international Film Festival 2008
ABOUT THE SCORE_
I wanted the music to reflect the inner-city urban setting and underline the emotional torture that the main character goes through. I had a lot of freedom to play as there are many passages in the film where there is no dialog and long, rolling scenes. This was great fun to score.
I found a melancholic guitar and bass mood, and director Michael Sharck was very interested in pushing towards very sound-design-like textures. The result is a twisted but melodic soundworld.
